October 2021 Underwear Donation Event: Sheffield Place + Journey House KC

On October 19, our team at MADI Apparel had the exciting opportunity to organize two empowerment events in our local area, one at Journey to New Life's Journey House and the other at Sheffield Place

These events are some of our favorite parts about what we do, because we’re able to reach out to our community, meet the women who your support impacts, and build stronger connections with strong women.

Thanks to every MADI Apparel item you purchased in September and October, we were able to donate 160 pairs of our biodegradable underwear to the women and teens living at Journey House and Sheffield Place. This was our first in-person empowerment event in over two years! When we go in person, we love to set up a table for residents to shop with dignity and pick out their favorite styles or size. For these two events in particular, we partnered with a few local businesses to give these women an exciting day of pampering. This event offered:

  • 2 pairs of MADI underwear per woman, plus the rest of the 160 pairs of underwear for the organizations to keep in stock for new residents
  • Treats made from scratch by Fleur and Honey
  • Beauty and hygiene products donated by I Support the Girls
  • Mini makeup sessons with Sarah, a Seint makeup artist
  • Professional photographer for portraits and candid photos for the women to keep
  • Fresh produce donated by Kanbe’s Market for the houses to keep

The goal of events like these are to make women feel seen.

We never want them to feel like they’re in need or that we’re there to take care of them. Instead, we want to empower them with items that encourage them feel strong, powerful and beautiful. They were able to shop our selection of underwear, hygiene products, gift bags and more. And everyone left smiling from the inside out.

We are so honored to have the ability to do that with the work that we do here at MADI and from the support of people like you.

Underwear donation requests are at an all-time high in our nation. That’s why we give back to domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, rape clinics and disaster relief situations who need these products the most, and we fulfill urgent requests regu.

Through your orders, we've donated underwear to over 8,000 women in over 40 organizations and ten countries—and that number only continues to grow.

The more you shop at MADI Apparel, the more we can make amazing events like this possible, so thank you!

About Sheffield Place

Sheffield Place opened its doors in February 1991 as a community response to the growing population of homeless mothers and their children in the Kansas City area.  Sheffield Place has assisted more than 1200 families in making the difficult journey from homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Empowering the families to heal from the severe, chronic, and continuous trauma they have experienced is the first step in the process of self-sufficiency.

About Journey to New Life

Journey to New Life is a social services organization in Kansas City. In 2015, the organization added Journey House for Women, a 22-bedroom residence that serves as a temporary home for former female offenders. Over time, the goal is to add several more of these homes.

At Journey to New Life and Journey House, former offenders who are re-entering the community get so much more than just a place to sleep at night or help with basic human needs.

Because it’s built on a restorative justice approach focused on healing, hope and, most importantly, an opportunity to begin again — it offers them the power to change.
